UK BEAUTY BRAND GUIDE
Private-label vs white-label skincare.
Private label and white label are often used interchangeably, but a supplier’s exact process matters more than the label. Before choosing a route, compare the product, packaging, quantity, information and responsibilities that will apply to your proposed range.
What is private-label skincare?
Private-label skincare usually means selecting an eligible existing product and presenting it under your own brand, subject to the supplier’s product, artwork and supply requirements. It can suit a focused launch where you want your own name and packaging without developing a formula from the beginning.
It does not mean every product, claim or pack format is automatically available. Ask which products are eligible, what information is needed for the label and whether quantities vary by item.
What is white-label skincare?
White-label skincare commonly refers to ready-made products that can be supplied to more than one brand, sometimes with standard packaging or a limited branding process. The practical meaning varies between suppliers, so request the written scope rather than relying on the term alone.
If you want finished Kokoshungsan-labelled products for resale, that is a separate reseller wholesale route and should not be treated as your own private-label range.
Which route gives more control?
Your control depends on the agreed product and artwork process. Compare whether you can choose the product, pack size, label artwork, language, order quantity and future repeat-order arrangements. A clear brief helps identify what is possible before you commit to a range.
What should a UK brand check?
For products made available to consumers in Great Britain, check the current requirements covering the Responsible Person, product safety, Product Information File, labelling and notification. Do not assume that changing a logo makes a product ready for sale, and do not use “organic”, “vegan”, “cruelty-free”, “clinically tested” or “UK-made” unless the claim is supported for the selected product.
Read the current GOV.UK cosmetics guidance. Northern Ireland has separate considerations, and this article is general information rather than legal advice.
Private label or white label: a simple decision guide
- Choose a private-label enquiry when you want to explore your own brand presentation for eligible products.
- Ask about white-label terminology only after confirming the exact product, pack, label and quantity.
- Choose reseller wholesale when you want to resell finished Kokoshungsan-labelled products.
- Request a written quote and responsibilities before ordering or publishing product claims.
